From the Studio: March Events
A roundup of our favorite March events and how we pulled them off.
March is often seen as the ugly stepchild of spring—still too cold to shed the winter garb, but gives you those teaser days that make you think: finally we made it, only to be reminded the next morning—not quite yet.
I feel differently - March is my birthday month (which even though not a typical Aries trait,) I do love celebrating because I love (famously,) to celebrate anything. But I also feel like it’s a time where the world starts to feel like it comes back into color. Like Dorothy moving from sepia Kansas to rainbow Oz. It’s a time before the buzz of summer streets but after peak hibernation. A promise of what’s to come and a nod to what came before.
Today I’m highlighting two very different March Philo events (she has range!) and how we brought them to life!
Women’s History Month: Special Edition Feast with Friends
I knew I wanted to celebrate Women’s History Month this year with an intimate sit-down dinner. In the first year of Philo, so many incredible women brought me in, gave me advice, made an intro, did a favor, gave reassurance and I wanted to honor that network. I also felt inspired by those in our lives and past who have inspired us - the Legacy of our heroes. Color is also a big inspiration for me and they usually come to me all at once, like an obsession. This month? Chartreuse.
The Details
Tablescape:
I wanted to prominently feature lace tablecloths (lace is so back). After a trip to the beautiful Schweitzer Linen, a luxury Italian linen supplier that’s been around for over 50 years, and an attempt to play it cool once hearing the prices, the stars aligned at the Gohar World sample sale. Based on their vibe, I had a good feeling if I got there early enough I could find what I was looking for. Alas, the stars did in fact align. Not only did I get my eyelet tablecloths, but also these incredible GIANT candles. They were so heavy that we had to tape the holders down to the table plus put copious amounts of floral tack around the base of them to hold them in place. Even then, the fear of a fire emergency lingered all night. WORTH IT.

Florals:
My favorite part of doing the florals for my events is going in with a vibe / mood board and seeing what grabs me while I’m at the flower market. If you go in with a plan any later than 5am and without a good knowledge of the market & suppliers, politely, you’re doomed. I’m usually part of the 8am “What do we have left” crowd at the Chelsea Market when I’m not sourcing from Flower Aggregate which is my go-to. That said, I knew I wanted Japanese Alliums for their whimsical but elevated look. I used them at an event this time last year so I knew they’d be in stock at the market. I got those plus incredible green and white anthuriums, chartreuse-kissed tulips, and white Calla Lillies. I placed them all on floral frogs in simple white ceramic dishes.

Magical Details:
This dinner was all about inspiration. Ahead of the dinner, I had guests send me a woman that inspired them and why. I used that woman as the basis for their name cards. I printed out the responses and handed them at random to guests as they arrived as an icebreaker - their task was to find the woman whose inspiration they held as a way to meet new people!
All the brands on the table and in the giftbags were woman-owned. We featured Tursh, BEZI, Freestyle Snacks, Besto, Society de la Rassi, Quincy, Holiday Vodka, French Squirrel, NOON World, Figa, and Dona!
Our entire production team was women as well - our chef was Kelly Grunewald of PlatedbyKelly, assisted by chef Dora Nguyen. Our bartender was Estelle from Nefi Studio. The venue was Bon Studio.

The Drinks:
I knew I had to have a Last Word on the menu because of it’s gorgeous Chartreuse hue. The day of the event Estelle informed me that the monks had recently stopped production of the Green Chartreuse (classic) skyrocketing it’s price to over $100 a bottle. She worked her magic and found an amazing alternative that tasted incredible. We also featured Holiday Vodka + Quincy Dirty Martinis, Faccia Brutto + Quincy Dirty Spritzes & Society de la Rassi NA Sparkling Wine.
Table Settings:

Dinner plates from Zara Home, appetizer plates from Crate & Barrel, vintage napkins & ribbon from the truly incredible East Coast Trimming.
The People:
To bring this night to life, we co-hosted with Merry, the Director of Community at Glimpse. Glimpse is a solution providing AI-powered deductions for CPG Brands and they just raised a $35M Series A round! We also worked with Rho, Yes! Apples and FreshDirect. The room was filled with female founders, investors, operators, media and tastemakers and it was magical.

Glimpse Series A Fundraise Party
Speaking of Glimpse! We also got to work on their $35M Series A launch party which was a capital P PARTY.
The Details
We had only a few weeks to get this party together and it was a blast. The event took place at the incredibly sexy Maison Nur and had fun branded details throughout. The party was so packed that I had to station myself and Dora (my right-hand lady) at opposite ends of the room for the night - there was no getting through those vibes.

My personal favorite and the Pièce de résistance - a custom ice sculpture with the Glimpse logo + custom lightning bolt ice cubes. Love you, Okamoto.

DJ Nate bringing the vibes all night + a custom neon sign.

Lilli Maren strikes again with this incredibly chic cake moment

Custom Cigs + No Days Wasted for next day recovery. Sorry friends, but I fear cigs are so back.

Vinyls from Brandmade by Sammy

Ceiling graphic lending ultimate “We just raised $35M” energy + Drinks named after the co-founders

And the night was danced away.

See you next month!

The Last Word is my favorite cocktail, and we don't see it enough at parties! Lovely choice.
Simply wow. Chartreuse is now my new obsession too!
